What Eurolinux opponents say

In 1999, when the preparatory work for the Diplomatic Conference was underway, a number of activists mainly organised via the Internet under the umbrella of the Eurolinux Alliance6 started activities against patentability of software-related inventions. [..] The most prominent action undertaken by this coalition was the so-called »Eurolinux Petition for a Software Patent Free Europe« [..] In view of the allegations set out in the petition, Eurolinux was in particular rather successful to deliver to the public a message saying that the EPC presently does not allow software patents and, hence, the current practice of the EPC is blatantly illegal. - Software Patentability activist Axel Horns, a German patent attorney
